This photo was taken this morning in Doc Dempsey’s Glades and, by the way, was my trail pick of the day. The very top of Docs was closed, but it was open from the upper traverse at the intersection of Catwalk and Upper FIS. This shortcut is called “Teigh’s Traverse” after a long time Patroller Teigh Southworth. This traverse brings you just below the top steep pitch. The traverse is narrow, so keep your speed down when using it to access Docs. The snow in Docs was just amazing today. The snow had been piling up, as seen last weekend, and it was really deep! Tomorrow, we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains. Weather permitting, we plan to have 7 lifts operating: Madonna I, Madonna II, Morse Highlands, Village, Sterling, Mogul Mouse’s Magic, and Sir Henry’s Glider. We now have 61 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 27 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Smugglers’ Alley, Upper FIS, Midway, Thomke’s, Curley’s Cutback, and Magic Learning Trail, for a total of 163 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Today, we made snow on Lower FIS, Waterfall, and Mulcahy’s Link. Birch Run Terrain Park is now open, and there will be a Rail Jam tomorrow. This event is free and starts at 11:00 am. Registration is in the Base Lodge from 8:00 am till 10:00 am. Have a great time with your friends and maybe win some prizes. Currently, it is partly cloudy and 20 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for cloudy skies with a chance of snow showers, half an inch of accumulation possible, and windy, with a high of 34 degrees at the base and 29 degrees at higher elevations. The winds may affect some lift operations tomorrow, so check the report in the morning for the latest information.
